We chose to use this opening title sequence for numerous reasons. The first reason being, we felt that the unique opening featuring pure audio created an eiree effect that fitted well with the movies genre. Also the initial quote that appeared on the screen provoked a curious response, leaving us to wonder what the story behind the quote might bring. The opening shots were also effective, because the further established the apocalyptic genre of the film.

We felt that we should use this trailer because we saw it as especially effective. One of the reasons for this being so effective was the establishing shot. This definitely set a spooky feeling that was continued throughout the trailer. We liked the idea of the an isolated setting in which we could set our opening sequence. Another useful technique was the use of low key lighting throughout the sequence. This added tension to the scene, and played on the fears of the audience. A good use of camera angles proved effective, for example, the scene in which the stereotypical male character bravely re-enters the bedroom to confront the intruder. This is captured by use of a mid-shot, in which we see the character walking down a eerily lit corridor, being watched by the almost invisible supernatural intruder.

I chose to use this opening sequence from halloween 4 because i thought it would be useful to have a wide variety of genres, so that we, as a group, could use to select our own genre. This was a useful scene to show an example of an establishing shot for a slasher film. The use of shots used to establish an autumn setting, is very effective, as it shows the general settings and isolated, picturesque houses that will soon become scenes of slaughter and mayhem. The use of props within the sequence, such as the iconic halloween pumpkins and the floating ghost decoration, is done effectively and the audience can easily infer the season. The use of props is something to think about when we make our own horror opening sequence.

I thought this was an effective opening title sequence as it mainly focuses in on a supernatural genre. This helped us choose our genre as we found that this is a very popular type of horror and although our main genre is slasher we can take some elements from insidious to help us plot our story line to our OTS. the things i liked best about this film was the unexpected mysterious thrills it creates for the viewer. These consist of things such as the fear of supernatural behavior which is a thing people do not find comfortable watching as it involves real life situations which are believable. The opening sequence of insidious uses some great soundtrack to create real tension and fear in the audience. This idea can be used in our OTS as we use a large spooky school which will create jumps and scares. We can also use a variety pf close up shots that are used in insidious as it shows the audience the fear of the victim and allows them to feel sympathetic. The setting of the OTS is effective as it is a lonely isolated house which seems old and dark inside (the perfect place for something to go wrong) The use of location in Insidious gave us something to think about when we are filming our opening sequence.

This opening title sequence is effective as it constantly builds the suspense through the extract. It is done well through the soundtrack as the fuzzing leads the viewer to question whether or not they are going to get a jump scare The use of only using a longshot is effective as it brings about false suspense as you expect to see something when you don't. The duration of the extract is also effective as it leads the viewer to be on edge and to be looking out for horror which makes them over think it and get more scared in doing so. The realism in the extract is also effective as the murder is not of supernatural means and is easily done and leads the viewer to believe that this could possible happen to them. We would use this in our OTS as it would make it more real and therefore more scary.
